The Japanese are often known for the use of minimalism and negative space to outline one flower or the quietness of a space . In poetry this becomes the haiku poem.
“Haiku is a form of art very popular in Japan. In some American, English, and other Asian countries, Haikus are even taught as part of the lower school curriculum. A haiku poem consists of three lines, with the first and last line having 5 moras, and the middle line having 7. A mora is like a syllable but it is merely a sound unit. The two are not actually identical. Since the moras do not translate well into English, it has been adapted and syllables are used as moras.“(ippmagazine.com)(March 2, 2014 by Aldrich)
One day recently a friend reminded me that although enjoyable some of my blogs are a bit wordy. Brevity has never been a primary virtue on mine. Thus, for today I thought I would submit the following meager attempts at writing Haiku.
You say my brain runs amok
Causing your brain to adjourn
I write a fifty page defense
A haiku is five moras
Tailed by seven drum beats
Five more finish it out.
Fewer vowels and dipthongs
Out out consonants
Tired brains much needed rest
